Police and the Public Works Department in Cornwall, England, are searching for a mysterious driver who reportedly filled a large pothole in the road with cement without permission.
People in Britain know that roads aren’t always in great condition, but residents of Cornwall faced extra inconvenience avoiding the top area of Tanhouse Road and Bodmin Hill in Lostwithiel because of a large hole in the middle of the road. This road was officially closed at the start of April, with a Cornwall Council spokesperson blaming ongoing drainage issues for the road surface’s deterioration.
However, after a month of no action from the government, an anonymous individual became frustrated with the huge pothole and took matters into their own hands, filling it with concrete over the first weekend in May. This DIY repair worked temporarily, and the road reopened briefly. But Cormac, the Cornwall Council’s road repair company, closed the road again because their team hadn’t officially carried out the work.
Now, Cornwall Highways officials are searching for the person responsible. They also mentioned that the work was done by an anonymous individual who removed signs without permission.
The company said the road would be closed until June 9th to fix potholes. A manager asked for help finding who fixed the road. Cornwall councilor Colin Martin said the pothole shows how public services are falling apart due to lack of money.
Mr. Martin said the road is closed again and won’t reopen until Cormac fixes it properly. He blamed budget cuts by the Cornwall Council for causing more potholes.
