A list of hopes and dreams written by a foster child from Oklahoma.

Dreamcatchers for Abused Children, a non-profit dedicated to the welfare of abused children, is deeply committed to reforming the lives of those who have suffered from abuse. According to their website, their primary objective is to raise awareness about various facets of child abuse, including its symptoms, intervention, prevention, statistics, reporting, and helping victims access the necessary resources for a complete recovery.

Recently, the organization shared a heart-wrenching account penned by a child from Oklahoma who found himself in the foster care system after enduring severe abuse from his alcoholic parents. The young boy had never experienced love or the simple joys of a typical childhood; his life had been marked by neglect and hunger. It was years before a vigilant neighbor noticed the distressing conditions in the boy’s home and took the initiative to contact social services.

After police intervention, the boy was placed under the care of the Dreamcatchers for Abused Children organization, which diligently ensured that he would find a new, loving home.

Upon discovering the ideal family for him and sharing this heartwarming news with the boy, he created a wish list, encompassing all the things he hoped to have in his new forever home.

Unsurprisingly, this list deeply touched the hearts of many. Numerous individuals took the time to comment on how the items on the list should be inherent to every child’s life, as most of them represent fundamental necessities rather than mere dreams.

This is the list:

“Things I want in my family:
I want food and water.
Don’t hit on me.
A house with running water and lights.
I want love.
Mom and dad don’t fight.
I want no drugs.
Don’t kill my pets.
Help with school.
Nice clean clothes.
No lice. No bug in house.
Clean house.
Clean bed with covers.
Don’t sell my toys.
Treated fair.
Don’t get drunk.
Tv in house.
Let me keep my school stuff.
Nice shoes.
My own comb soap. Nice house and safe and heater coat.
Toothbrush.”

This list serves as a poignant reminder that we should never overlook the blessings we possess.
