Anyone who has experience as a babysitter or nanny understands the significant responsibility involved in the role. While many take their job seriously, some exceed any parent’s expectations.
In the case of twenty-two-year-old Kiersten Miles, who had been caring for George and Farra Rosko’s three children for only a few weeks, her dedication went beyond the ordinary. When one of the kids faced a life-threatening situation, Kiersten made a decision that would alter the course of her life. This decision has left the Rosko family forever thankful.
Kiersten Miles, a 22-year-old student from New Jersey seeking financial support for her studies, reached out to the Rosko family through a friend and promptly began her employment with them. Quickly establishing a close connection, Kiersten developed a strong bond with the couple’s three children, particularly their youngest daughter, Talia.
But, the nine-month-old girl had a rare, really serious liver sickness. When doctors said Talia needed a new liver, Kiersten didn’t think twice about offering hers. George and Farra Rosko weren’t sure about it initially. They told Kiersten how important it was.
Donating a part of your liver isn’t as simple as giving blood. It involves surgery and comes with certain risks. Despite this, Kiersten stuck to her decision and applied to be Talia’s donor. When the test results came in, it turned out Kiersten was a perfect match!
George and Farra Rosko were incredibly thankful for Kiersten’s selfless choice. They made sure not to pressure Kiersten into a decision she might regret later. With no regrets, Kiersten and Talia went to the hospital on January 11, 2017, for the 14-hour surgery.
Initially, doctors gave Kiersten anesthesia, took a part of her liver, and promptly carried out a transplant for little Talia. Thankfully, the transplant was a success! Kiersten stayed at the hospital for five days, while Talia stayed for nine.
Luckily, both Kiersten and Talia bounced back swiftly, and today, Talia is a lively toddler. It’s almost unbelievable that she recently underwent a liver transplant. Now, she’s just like any other little girl—running around, playing, and eating with newfound energy! Kiersten, without a doubt, deserves a big “thank you” for her incredible gesture. What a heart of gold!
In a world where humanity can often feel distant and self-centered, individuals like Kiersten truly offer hope and inspiration! She could have easily continued her own life, prioritizing herself, but instead, she embarked on a challenging journey, risking herself so that a little girl could have a chance at life. If Kiersten isn’t a superhero, then we don’t know who is!
