The level of cruelty that certain individuals can exhibit towards pets is nothing short of astonishing. Last year, a gentle puppy named Riona endured unimaginable suffering when her owner heartlessly set her on fire.
Riona, a pitbull mix, is settling into her new residence, nearly a year following a horrifying incident. Last June, in Nutbush, Tennessee, she dashed down the street engulfed in flames, terrifying the local residents. It was evident that she had been intentionally set on fire due to the presence of a strong gas odor.
Mallory Mclemore, a member of the Bluff City Veterinary Specialists, described the overwhelming scent of gas, while Ginger Natoli, the founder of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, confirmed that Riona had been deliberately set on fire, as witnessed by others. Natoli also mentioned that they obtained Ring camera footage from a neighbor, which captured Riona running ablaze. Riona’s heartbreaking story gained global attention when a TikTok video about her went viral, amassing millions of views and eliciting sympathy from people around the world.
Mclemore commented on Riona’s perpetual tail-wagging, underscoring the cruelty of the situation ‘It’s even more heartbreaking due to Riona’s sweet and loving nature, she adores everyone she meets.’ Tails of Hope diligently kept the public informed about Riona’s healing progress, and kind-hearted supporters sent in contributions and presents to aid in her recovery.
In the meantime, a 43-year-old individual named Quishon Brown was apprehended on charges of setting Riona ablaze. He faced legal action, including misdemeanor assault and two felony charges for aggravated cruelty to animals and setting fire to personal property. The case is presently awaiting trial.
Over the course of several months, Riona’s condition gradually improved. Recently, nearly one year after the traumatic incident, an uplifting development emerged in Riona’s story: she’s at last headed to her new forever home!
Tails of Hope announced their upcoming ten-hour road trip to escort Riona to her permanent, loving home. On their Facebook page, the rescue organization emphasized that Riona’s story is far from its conclusion; in reality, it’s just the start of a new chapter. They expressed gratitude for everyone who played a role in this miraculous journey with their remarkable “warrior” girl.
It’s really sad to imagine what this sweet dog went through. But we’re so happy that Riona is going to her new home.
