Martha Stewart is a beloved figure with fans all around the world, but her recent social media post has sparked some backlash. The 82-year-old, who received praise earlier this year for her appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, is facing criticism over a post from her trip to Greenland.
On August 29, Stewart shared a photo from a cruise along Greenland’s east coast, showing her enjoying a cocktail. The caption read: “End of the first zodiac cruise from @swanhelleniccruises into a very beautiful fjord on the east coast of Greenland. We actually captured a small iceberg for our cocktails tonight.” While Stewart likely intended the post to be lighthearted, it quickly drew criticism from followers who found her use of a “small iceberg” for a drink in poor taste.
Soon after, Stewart’s comments section was flooded with criticism over her reference to using a “small iceberg” while “ice caps are melting.” One Instagram user wrote: “Martha, the ice caps are melting—don’t put them in your drink.”
Another added: “I generally love Martha and the luxury of her life—beautiful gardens, homes, and food. But wealthy people drinking iceberg cocktails while the planet is burning feels a bit tone-deaf.”
A third commenter sarcastically noted: “So as the climate warms due to the profits of a few thousand people, billionaires vacation to melting icebergs, scoop them up, and use them to chill their cocktails. Sounds like a dystopian novel. Can’t make this up lol.”
A fourth user expressed frustration: “Global warming and melting ice caps, but we need glacier ice for cocktails?! Talk about tone-deaf. I’ve been a fan for years, but I’m over it. Been struggling to buy groceries while seeing this caviar nonsense.”
